Today

Today (20 January) is my Mom’s birthday… my best friend. The person who knows me the best and isn’t afraid to set me on the right path when I’ve done something wrong. The woman who taught me about my God, love, faith, hard work, integrity, giving of yourself to others, being generous. The woman who taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to. The list is never ending. God’s riches the blessings on your birthday Mom. I hope and trust it will be an awesome day. 🎈🎂🎁❤️

Sayings and birthdays

There is a saying “Friday night’s dream on a Saturday told, is bound to come true, no matter how old”.

So maybe I shouldn’t share it because it was so disturbing. I’ll just say it was violent and the violence was against me.

Anyways, happy weekend everyone.

We have a Birthday in the house. My Mom is turning 27 (swop it around) tomorrow. Her brother and my Dad’s sisters are coming around for lunch. Should be good. (Although NOT looking forward to answering my aunts about why “he” isn’t with me. Especially since my one aunt had such high hopes for us.)

Anyways, I have decorations and paper plates to go buy. I have to wrap her one pressie. And then I have to help with the food. I’ve decided every birthday is special, no matter what age, you never know when it is your last.

Treasure every day, even if things don’t go as planned.

Who am I kidding?

Run my blog

Tomorrow morning, I am supposed to wake up at 6 am to be at a fun walk at 7:30 am. Seriously? What was I thinking when I said I would participate? I know it is a walk and not a run but I am still not sure if I will be walking the 5 or 10 km.

At least I got some “practise” in on Wednesday. I had to take the Model to the UIF (unemployment offices) in town. See, the Model was dismissed from his job, which sucks and not only for him but everyone around him, especially Rugby Man. One of Biker Man’s friends can get him a position somewhere, but thanks to all the rain, the site’s that the friend is supposed to take him to have been closed down till everything dries up. Don’t ask me what the work is, that’s all I got out of the whole conversation.

Anyways, so while he is waiting for the new job to come through, he cannot be without money, because he has a car to pay, etc. So I went with him to register for unemployment benefits at the UIF. From there, we had to go get recruitment forms at the Defence force, because at least they offer different careers paths, however, they could not help. Not without a matric certificate. *rolls eyes* Then we went to the Police Head Office… btw, I walked in there and well, no one even asked why there were strange people in the head office. There was no one at the entrance to the building, no people to assist. I eventually ended up with the detectives, who all had their service weapons on their hips. One of them helped me… but it seriously makes you wonder why no one really trusts the cops anymore…. From there we had to go to the bank… and then to the High Court cause I had to go pick up something there. The SABC and ENCA vans were parked outside, even though Oscar was not there. (Btw, I see his trial has been postponed to 7 April now.) From there all the way back to the car. By that time it was 13:00. I messaged my editor and told her that I wouldn’t be in the afternoon. We must have walked the whole Pretoria CBD flat and all I can say is thank goodness, that I had tekkies on.

So, now the Model went back this morning to hand all the necessary documents in. I hope he comes right, although he is 23 and a man and should take responsibility for his actions. I mean at 23 my brother was married with a kid. When I was 23 my dad was diagnosed with his illness. I have realised that my nephews are both spoilt and need to start taking responsibility for their lives.

Speaking about nephews, it is the AMERICAN’s birthday today. He is 20-years-old. I remember the day he was born, actually the night… They took his mom in for an emergency c-section and I was pacing up and down the corridors with Biker Man. Can’t believe how the time has flown by. 🙂

Happy birthday my American Boy… I hope that your day is as awesome and great as you are. Welcome to the 20’s. Enjoy them and always stay cool. 🙂

Today….

Today is my Mom’s birthday. She says that she feels like it has come full cirlce, because she was born on a Monday, or so her mother told her. 🙂 Anyways, this post is dedicated to the most special woman in my life. My Mom.

Happy birthday Mom. I trust your year ahead will be awesome and special just as you are. Thank you for always being there for me, no words can express how much you mean to me and how much I appreciate the fact that God chose you to be my Mom.

I found this online… I know my mom has a copy of this  as a newspaper clipping in her photos box. I just thought that it was too beautiful not to share.

Happy Birthday Mom. 🙂

“When God Created Mothers”

When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of “overtime” when the angel appeared and said. “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And God said, “Have you read the specs on this order?” She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts…all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands.”

The angel shook her head slowly and said. “Six pairs of hands…. no way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me problems,” God remarked, “it’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.”

“That’s on the standard model?” asked the angel. God nodded.

“One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, ‘What are you kids doing in there?’ when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn’t but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say. ‘I understand and I love you’ without so much as uttering a word.”

“God,” said the angel touching his sleeve gently, “Get some rest tomorrow….”

“I can’t,” said God, “I’m so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick…can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger…and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower.”

The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. “It’s too soft,” she sighed.

“But tough!” said God excitedly. “You can imagine what this mother can do or endure.”

“Can it think?”

“Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise,” said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek.

“There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model.”

“It’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s it for?”

“It’s for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride.”

“You are a genius, ” said the angel.

Somberly, God said, “I didn’t put it there.”

Noodle, you are one today!

A small happy birthday for a growing Noodle. :)

A small happy birthday for a growing Noodle. 🙂

Today is Noodle’s first birthday. Yes, can you believe a whole year has gone past  and I have learnt so much in this past year about babies and everything that goes along with them.

See, with Cutie Pie, we never got to experience the first year of her life, because Biker Man had a bee in his bonnet and didn’t speak to my Mom or I before the birth and for a whole year after her birth. We all said things we shouldn’t have and we all hurt one another. Yes, all families fight, but I sometimes think my family takes the cake. Yes, I laugh about it now, but it was a very sad time. However, we all re-united on her first birthday, which means that we missed out on a lot but, I think we made up for that, because Cutie Pie loves us and we love her. She is more my child than anyone else’s.

Anyways, back to Noodle. Yes, I learnt a lot over the past year. From changing nappies to dealing with tummy cramps to trying to teach her how to walk! It has been an intense journey and I have loved every part of it. She is truly wonderful and it is going to be such an honour to see her grow up. 🙂 So, to my Noodle, Happy, Happy birthday. I hope and pray that you will be blessed in your life and that you always stay as awesome as you are! We love you too much and we will always be there for you, no matter what.

Noodle and her bull. :)

Happy Birthday Noodle! 🙂

My weekend in a nutshell….

As mentioned before, it was the Model’s birthday. I wasn’t sure what to get him, but on Friday he called me to ask if I had the movie Gladiator. He wanted to lend it. Unfortunately, I am not really a Russell Crowe fan and I told him that and told him that I did not have it in my DVD collection, but that gave me a bright idea. After work, I made a quick trip to Musica to find Gladiator and Clash of the Titans, because as the Model put it, he likes fight movies from the ancient times like 300, Troy, etc. (Totally off topic, but did you see they are doing a second 300 movie? Check it out here.)

After the quick trip to the store, my Mom and I went to Rugby Man’s pub on the base (the place where my family have all their celebrations) to find the Model. When we got there, he had left. So, we decided to hang out with my brother while we waited for him to return.

Finally the Model arrived and we gave him the pressie. He opened it and said the following: “Kitty, you are the shit! It’s just what I wanted!” Yes, ladies and gentlemen, apparently, I really know what my nephews want for their birthdays. *insert big smile here*.

I ended up having shooters with him, Melktertjies to be exact. It still fascinates me how good they are and no wonder they are so potent.

*************

Saturday morning, I was awoken at 07:00 by Biker Man. Does the man not know that I sleep late on Saturday mornings? I gave the phone to my Mom to answer and went back to bed; however, I was awake and couldn’t fall asleep again. *sigh*

Within a matter of minutes Biker Man had arranged a braai for that night to celebrate the Model’s birthday. See, the pub has a lapa, braai area and really cheap alcoholic beverages… and we would be going there once again. It seems to be our home away from home when the rugby season is on and when we celebrate birthdays.

My brothers are bikers, so their friends were there, my family was there and my nephew’s friends rocked up again, charming as ever. *wink wink*

I ended up doing shooters with them… and at R 5 a shooter, there was a lot to be had. Cookies and cream, Springbokkies and of course, Melktertjies. My mom even had one with the boys and really impressed their friends, because their grannies would NEVER do that. She became a legend to my nephew’s friends.

We got home at 00:30. Turns out my brother still went clubbing with the Model and the Blond One. He only got home at 04:30. I admit I was VERY impressed when I saw him at church yesterday morning.

Anyways, the Blonde one had quite a deep conversation with me in the kitchen at the party. He proceeded to tell me that I am the most successful woman he knows, because I have done something with my life. He also said that he was so very proud of me, and then added that if we weren’t related, I’d be in trouble. Hahahaha. That last comment, confirms that he was a bit tipsy.

Anyways, I thought that I would just share my weekend in a nutshell. Many more things happened that I cannot quite elaborate on now. Maybe another time?

Enjoy your Monday, or what’s left of it.

It is Friday, the 13th…

and it is your birthday. Yes, my dear Model, you are a year older… and at 23 the world is your oyster. So, I want to wish you a happy birthday and hope that your day is awesome and that none of our “Irish bad luck superstitions” rub off on you today. 🙂

Today is the birthday of my oldest nephew and my Mom’s first grandchild. Today would have also been my Ouma’s (my mom’s mother) birthday. She would have been 88 years-old. She passed three months after my dad passed away. So that was not the greatest year for my Mom. My Ouma was quite a lady. I should one day blog about her and her achievements. She was really a cool gal and I miss her and my Dad so much sometimes. Anyways, it was nice that my Ouma celebrated her birthday with her great-grandchild. How many times does that happen in life?

happy-birthday-greeting

On other news… After ten weeks of hard work, I finished my graphic design course. I am proud to say that my final mark is for the course is 78% which means I passed with distinction. *Insert a biig smile here* I cannot believe it is over though, because I had so much fun. Working and studying is not for sissies, but it seems to have worked for me. I must just say, I am VERY glad that I am at a company that pays for continued training. Through them I have done the following:

  • Writing for social media.
  • Photoshop.
  • Advanced sub-editing.
  • Foundations of graphic design.

My HR manager called me an “over-achiever”. I told her, that I would prefer being called a “bright spark” and an asset to the company. Now, can you believe that I am already thinking about the next course that I want to do? Crazy? Well, I might be. 🙂 See, I have two or three options open to me and I would like to consider them properly before I say anything else.

Okay, so enough ramblings from me today.
Have a good weekend.

Another birthday in the family…

Yes, you read right… We have another birthday in the family today. Namely that of Mrs Biker Man. Who is a whole 37 years old today.  I just got off the phone with her and she was eating chocolate brownies. Biatch!  I could do with one now… its been a hectic morning here.

My editor asked that I help with the entries for the PICA awards.  I love doing that kind of stuff and getting everything ready was fun. However, just as I was finishing up, the permanent marker I was using decided to break and I had black ink all over my hands and desk. *face palm*

Anyways, back to Mrs Biker Man’s birthday. I just called her and must admit she sounded really flustered, poor thing. Anyways, I got her and my brother the same gift for their birthdays, except her’s is a different colour and this time I promise, I will take a photo and put it up, because it is too cute NOT to share it.

Anyways, Mrs Biker Man, happy birthday. I hope and trust that you will have a great day and year ahead and that you will be showered with love from my brother and the girlies. 🙂
