Tuesday Tune: Livin’ on a Prayer

The other night, I couldn’t fall asleep and there was nothing on TV. So there I was flipping through the channels and up comes Big Brother Africa on channel 197 and 198… Seriously, how many channels do we need to watch boring people sit in a house and eat their life away? I felt like chewing on my wrists… anyways, so off to Channel 323 I went… and it was 80’s night.

I remember growing up, my music influences came from Rugby Man and Biker Man, hence why I like so many different kinds of music… but, this song came on and it took to the time I was standing in the Sunny Park Mall in Sunnyside (yes, this is years ago) and buying the CD with my pocket money because it was on special at Top CD or something like that. I know, you want to know what the CD was? Well, it was this one:

The song, well I thought it would be an apt 80’s Tuesday Tune.

Livin’ On A Prayer
Bon Jovi

Once upon a time
Not so long ago

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union’s been on strike
He’s down on his luck…it’s tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day
Working for her man, she brings home her pay
For love – for love

She says we’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got
‘Cause it doesn’t make a difference
If we make it or not
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot
For love – we’ll give it a shot

[Chorus:]
Whooah, we’re half way there
Livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it – I swear
Livin’ on a prayer

Tommy’s got his six string in hock
Now he’s holding in what he used
To make it talk – so tough, it’s tough
Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night
Tommy whispers baby it’s okay, someday

We’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got
‘Cause it doesn’t make a difference
If we make it or not
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot
For love – we’ll give it a shot

[Chorus]

We’ve got to hold on ready or not
You live for the fight when it’s all that you’ve got

[Chorus]
