Monday happenings and quotes

The Waterkloof Air Force base (about a block or two from our house) has been a buzz this weekend… airplanes flying in and taking off. Last night was especially noisy, but I am not complaining. I love the sound of the jets and planes.

This week will be a hectic one for our country. Foreign dignitaries will be flying in to pay their respects, not to mention most South African citizens will be doing the same. I wanted to go to the Union Buildings on the weekend, to take some photos of everyone, but I never got to it as we were quite busy on the weekend. However, the tributes and interviews on TV has been really inspiring and yes, we have lost a great legend. But then, the shock came that Madiba was not the only person we lost this weekend. Baby Jake Matlala also passed away. Our thoughts go our to his family and friends too.

Yesterday at church, we had a moment of silence to remember the passing of Madiba. I see our website has a short article on as well:

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Hamba Kahle Tata Madiba!

As a regional church in Southern Africa, we embrace all our Brothers and Sisters and the citizens of our country in expressing our sincerest condolences at the passing of our much loved friend and former President, Nelson Mandela!

Our heartfelt condolences as a Christian organization are also extended to the Mandela family and to all who have been deeply touched by his life, as we have been.

Today, in the circle of our Administrative staff we shared a few moments in which we thanked our Heavenly Father for this wonderful man and great human being that had served our nation so well.

Our bible text was extracted from the New Testament verses in 1 Timothy 2: 1-4 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

We will certainly continue to remember this loving soul that shall be entrusted into the Grace of the Almighty God!

Yours sincerely,
MP Mkhwanazi

Anyways, I see the You magazine has put up some of Madiba’s famous quotes on their website. I thought that I would share a few with you today (they are below).

Have a good Monday further.

  1. We got an email on Friday telling us that we could leave at 14:00 last Friday to go and pay our respects, I think most people just took it as a good excuse to go home early.
One of my friends said it’s such a shame that Baby Jake “chose” for his time to come to an end now, he’ll always be overshadowed by Mandela and he won’t get the “recognition” that he deserves

  2. It is sad about Baby Jake… I was shocked… he was very young.

As for us, I’d love to be there, but our work has said we can watch it on TV, so the TV is on in the common room right now, nice thing is that my office is next to the common room. 🙂
