My great loves…

I have always wanted two things in my house one day when I decide to settle down –

(a)    A room in my house dedicated to books, a library with bookshelves covering the walls. A place where I can get lost in; and

(b)   A theatre room, one painted with red walls (Please note this isn’t the Red Room of Pain, lol) and movie star portraits on the walls. One where I can stash all my DVDs. Another room where I can get lost in.

I have a bookcase in my room at the moment; however, it is filled with quite a number of books. Coffee table books, music books, romances, thrillers, etc. I see that as the beginning of my library. I also have a bookcase in the lounge filled with all my DVDs. Last time I checked, I had 180 and counting.

This past weekend, I went shopping – Book shopping.  It is something that I haven’t really done in a while. Just browsing around books, picking them up, seeing what they are all about. I admit I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since I was book shopping at a sale. *Insert big grin here*

I came across a box set of books that were marked R 1495. They were then marked R 495 and I got it for R 275. It contains 20 books. Each book is written by a different author, and you will recognise some authors, namely, Freud, Casanova, Hardy, etc. Another awesoeme thing is that each book cover is different. How cool is that?

The books in the set are:

A Mere interlude – Thomas Hardy
A Russian affair – Anton Checkov
Bodily secrets – William Trevor
Bonjour Tristesse – Francoise Sagan
Cures for love – Stendhal
Deviant love – Sigmund Freud
Doomed love – Virgil
Eros unbound – Anais Nin
First love – Ivan Turgenev
Forbidden fruit – Peter Abelard
Giovanni’s room – James Baldwin
Magnetism – F. Scott Fitzgerald
Mary – Vladimir Nabokov
Of mistresses, tigresses and other conquests – Giacomo Casanova
Something childish by very natural – Katherine Mansfield
The eaten heart – Giovanni Boccaccio
The Kreutzer Sonata – Leo Tolstov
The Seducer’s diary – Søren Kierkegaard
The virgin and the gipsy – DH Lawrence
The women who got away – John Updike

So this weekend, between working (cause it is deadline time at the mag), I have to sort out my bookshelves. It is time, I have decided to sell my PC and maybe get myself another bookcase? Who knows? So many possibilities are in store.

Oh and I have been thinking firmly about doing my masters. I’m still deciding on that. But it is something I need to do if I want to get into lecturing one day.

Anyways, I’m off… Hope you have a brilliant Thursday.

  1. I also want a “library” of books and DVDs one day, it will be awesome. So jealous that you managed to get such a bargain on he books!

    • Oh Asian… one day our dreams will come true. 🙂

I actually got my LOTR box set like that too… I’ll post pics of that set and post my story on how I got it one day. 😉

  2. We share the same loves – books and DVDs, prefer books though, especially historical romances. I too would love a room full with books that I can get lost in. Sad to say most people don’t share our love for books and I could never find a house with anything that came close to a library.

    • Oh, that’s lovely news. 🙂 Another book and movie fanatic. Houses today don’t cater for that, hence why I’ll have to make my own one day. 🙂 Have a good day Deluded.
